NPT's classic tour provides an overview of Nantucket in its heyday and focuses on the portion of Main Street between the Pacific National Bank and the Civil War Monument. Did you know that 80-90 percent of all creatures in the ocean produce some kind of light? Did you know that back on land, fungi, fireflies and some earthworms also produce a "natural glow?" How do these amazing critters light up without any cords or sockets? Through a mind-boggling process called bioluminescence! In this workshop, we will explore bioluminescence through the book, The Winking, Blinking Sea by Mary Batten, conduct a hands-on light experiment, and create our own glow-in-the-dark night lights to take home.
