Web Site Domain Name Registration
Each web site has its own domain name or URL. This is your web site address. For instance, www.nantucket.net is the domain name or URL for this web site.
If you wish to register your own domain name, there are many registries available. Please note the following:
• You do not own your domain name - you are leasing it, something like leasing a PO box.
• You will pay a yearly fee for the registration
• If you register your own domain name, you are responsible for renewing it. Failure to renew your domain name may mean the loss of the domain name once your registation has lapsed.
• If your personal contact information changes at anytime, be sure to update the information with the registrar so you will recieve notifications from them.
• If you wish to change your hosting company (for instance, move your web site from Verio to Nantucket.net) you must Transfer your domain name to the new company.
• There are many scams that will try to trick you into transfering a domain from one company to another. Be sure any update or renewal notifications you recieve are from the registrar you used.
As you can see - there is a lot to domain names. If you would prefer that Nantucket.net register your name for you, please see our Internet Services section or fill out the Domain Registration form and fax (508-228-1348) or email (info@nantucket.net) it to our offices.
Once you have your domain name, your hosting company can activate your site for you to upload your files. See Hosting for more information.
